BRIGHTON, ONTARIO- The Northeast Late Model Alliance officials are excited to announce the full return of the series for the 2022 race season. Once again, Vanderlaan Building Products has graciously partnered with promoters to hold the series title sponsor. Vanderlaan Building Products has been such as strong supporter of Late Models at Brighton Speedway and the NLMA series title sponsor since the inaugural season back in 2019.
The NLMA series unfortunately ran dormant in the 2020 season and was only able to get four series events in the 2021 season due to Covid-19 restrictions. Excitingly, the 2022 Vanderlaan Building Products NLMA Tour holds a total of eleven events at five different tracks. The series officials, promoters and late model drivers are really looking forward to putting on several great shows for fans across Ontario. When speaking with Andrew Hennessy the 2021 NLMA series champion on the return of the series he states “I am looking forward to running a full series this season. Covid slowed us all down but now that it’s over we are gearing back up and with 11 races on the series schedule it looks like TEEM 57/87 cars won’t have a lot of time to rest this summer between the series, weekly events, full time work and kids. It’ll be exhausting come September but worth it also.”
The series will kick off on Sunday, July 3rd at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario. Charlie Sandercock and David Pangrazio have been the only two drivers to score series feature wins at Humberstone Speedway. However, that may change this year with competitors like Andrew Hennessy or Niagara native Sam Pennachio hungry for a Humberstone Speedway NLMA feature win.
Next the Vanderlaan Building Products NLMA Tour takes them to the Ohsweken Speedway for the first time in series history. The series had anticipated visiting the “Big O” back in 2020, but due to Covid restrictions the facility remained closed for the 2020 and 2021 race seasons. Many of the NLMA drivers have had the opportunity to race the 3/8th mile back in July of 2019 where Kyle Sopaz earned his second biggest career win. When chatting with Sopaz on this victory he shares “As for the ‘Big O’, that was a lot of fun! Potentially the most FUN I had in 2019, passing cars and dicing it up with the super guys is always a blast. Biggest of 2019? No, but DEFINITELY the second biggest! [NLMA Series Win at Merrittville Speedway was Kyle’s biggest, the last feature win he was able to celebrate with his late father, Rick Sopaz] It was exciting for the fans and it’s exciting to watch again once in a while!”. Be sure to mark this in your calendars, the visit to Ohsweken Speedway is not one to miss.
The tour is brought back to Humberstone Speedway before heading east to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 13th, then even farther east to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 14th. This double header weekend for the Vanderlaan Building Products NLMA series is going to be action packed. Saturday brings home track territory for many of the series participants with many possible contenders to score the feature win. Since the establishment of the series, Cornwall Motor Speedway has been a driver and fan favourite for late model racing. The high banking of this ¼ mile bullring brings some fast, action-packed racing that is sure to draw a crowd. Previous winners at Cornwall include Charlie Sandercock ’18, Steve Baldwin ’19 and Andrew Hennessy ’21.
To wrap off August events the series will head west once more to Humberstone Speedway, before they hit another new track for the series, “The Bullring” (Brockville Ontario Speedway) on Friday, September 9th. Just like Ohsweken, many of our series drivers have had the opportunity to race Brockville’s bullring (with the GO Nuclear Late Model Series) in previous years. Brandon Mowat won at the Falls Nationals with GO Nuclear back in 2019, with Charlie Sandercock, Chad Homan and Adam Turner all being contenders. Vanderlaan Building Products NLMA drivers will then finish their weekend off at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, September 10th.
Ending September with a bang the series will have one of its biggest weekends at Brighton Speedways prominent Applefest Shootout featuring the Great Crate Race. The inaugural Great Crate Race back in 2011 was won by Lee Gill since then, NLMA series driver Charlie Sandercock has swept the event a total of four times back-to-back from 2015-2018 until Adam Turner (2019) and Andrew Hennessy (2021) were able to score Great Crate Race victories. More details on the Great Crate Race will be released in future.
Closing out the Vanderlaan Building Products Northeast Late Model Alliance touring series will end off back East at Cornwall Motor Speedway for a double header weekend October 8th and 9th for their Canadian Super Dirt Weekend. The final two points nights at Ontario’s fastest ¼ mile dirt bullring, is going to lead to some dirt flying action you will not want to miss!
The NLMA officials would like to recognize and thank all the sponsors of the Vanderlaan Building Products touring series. Associate sponsors include C. Smith Automotive Machine Shop, Deerhaven Powersports, Bellevue Fabricating, Dibbits Excavating and Landscape Supply, Insta-Panels, Bernheisel Race Cars, VP Fuels, Lazer Chassis and Willow Printing and Publishing Co. for their support in previous seasons and the upcoming 2022 season.
